Ferry Job (April 2003 to August 2003)

From April to August 2003 I worked for P&O on the English channel ferries. It was a pretty cool job, staff had to live on the boat for up to two weeks at a time, and I got some good photos out of it.

I mostly worked on the 'Pride of Portsmouth', which did the Portsmouth/LeHarve run, three times a day.
The ship was absolutely huge. In size, it is bigger than anything in the Royal Navy (including their aircraft carriers). It can carry up to 1600 passengers, and has 411 cabins.
bowofship This is part of the bow of the ship. The man standing there give some idea of the size of the mooring ropes and anchor chain. cardeck This is of one of the car decks on the ship during loading. This picture shows one side of the deck - there is the same amount of space on the other side of the ship. There are four decks like this. leHarve This is LeHarve, where we sailed to. It looks like a really nice little city. Although we went there three times a day, I only got a chance to get off and have a quick look around a few times. popo This is the ship I spent most of my time on - the Pride of Portsmouth. sideofship1 The white cylinders in the photo on the left contain 25 people emergency liferafts. sideofship2 The lifeboats in the photo on the right can carry 150 people, and are big boats in their own right.
sunset1 There were many good parts about the job. I got to see many fantastic sunrises and sunsets over the ocean. sunset2 movieposters I did one trip on the Portsmouth/Bilbao run on the 'Pride of Bilbao'. I got to get off in Spain for a couple of hours to have a coffee and post some postcards.
